Falling Awake ... update on book
WOW ... this book is definitely one to put on everyone's "to read" list and if it is already there then move it up to be the next book.
I love the easy reading layout and the different exercises the author has you moving through for self discovering. I have completed four of the chapters - well not quite completed all of the exercises because they are 'thinking' exercises that are definitely not to be rushed through.
David Ellis the author has done an incredible job with his approach and allowing people to feel secure with this type of work.
Completing Chapter 1 gives the reader a sense of accomplishment and certainly a feeling of their goals are attainable.
A definite must. Will offer more updates and feedback as I continue through this amazing journey.
Thanks for reading. Until next time ... embrace your inner wisdom.

Craniosacral - a bird's eye view introduction
Today I wanted to share a bird's eye view of what Craniosacral is and how it works - sort of. People study this healing modality for years and are still in wonder of it. This blog today is truly just the first outer most layer of what Craniosacral is.
Craniosacral Therapy is a way to influence the contents of the brain and spinal cord by affecting the mobility and tensions of the dural system, using the bones of the cranium and sacrum as handles. The Craniosacral System is a semi-closed hydraulic system contained in a tough waterproof membrane called the Dura Mater which envelops the brain and spinal cord.
During a Craniosacral session there are three elements which the practitioner works through.
The first is the palpation. The practitioner is palpating through approximately nine different areas of the client's body. These are the ankles, shins, thighs, hip bones, ribs, shoulders, and three different aspects of the cranial bones. Depending on the client the practitioner may choose to palpate additional areas. They are palpating four different aspects of the Craniosacral rythym. The symmety, quality, amplitude, and rate per minute.
The second element is the diaphragm releases. The practitioner uses the areas of fiber transverse to release tension and blockages to enable the CSF to move easily throughout the Craniosacral system.
The third element is the actual working with the sacrum and cranial bones to release restrictions and promote internal healing.
Some common questions people ask are:
1) what does the treatment feel like? Well, the easiest way to describe it is to think of the weight of a nickle. The is the 'force' which the practitioner uses while conducting a treatment. The 'feeling' of release is different for every client. Some feel a sense of warmth moving through, a vibration running through and sometimes there is no physical feeling.
2) am I dressed or undressed? This is similar to Reiki, you do not need to get undressed. It is advisable though for you to where light comfortable clothing. Heavy clothes like jeans and belts can inhibit the practitioner from doing their 'job' of facilitating your healing process.
3) how often do I need to see a practitioner? This is again individual and depending on the individual is might be weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or semi-annually. I always recommend my clients do a daily or weekly check in with their bodies. How are they feeling on a scale of 1 - 10? When their bodies tell them it is time for another treatments then schedule an appointment.
You can learn more about Craniosacral by visiting our website and you can also visit the Upledger Institute's website.
Thanks for reading. Until next time ... embrace your inner wisdom!

Reiki - What is Reiki?
I thought I would give everyone a really quick overview of what Reiki is; this is one of the three elements which make up each coaching session for our clients. The following information is found throughout the internet.
Reiki is the Japanese word for Universal Life Force Energy. There are two components which make up the word Reiki - Rei = is universal, transcendental spirit, mysterious power, essence and Ki = vital life force energy. Depending on the training received there can be at least 8 hand positions and as many as 15; the practitioner will spend a varying amount of time at each position. During the session there is no need for the client to remain awake and often clients will fall into a deep meditative state and wake feeling refreshed. We always recommend after receiving a treatment for the client to drink plenty of water to help flush out any toxins which have been released during the treatment.
Some of the benefits which our clients have commented back to us with are they feel more energized, have more clarity on life's mission, and more in balance with themselves and their surroundings.
The following are two most frequently asked questions:
Q: Is is like a massage where I need to disrobe and do you put your hands on me?
A: No, you are fully clothed on the table. Sometimes my hands hover over your body, sometimes they are placed using a very light touch - think of a penny, and sometimes they are put under your body. It really depends as to what is happening within your body and system.
Q: How long is a session and how often do I need to have a session?
A: A session for Reiki lasts between 45 and 60 minutes. How often you need a session again is personal to you and is different for each client. Some people come weekly, some bi-weekly, some monthly, and some just a few times a year.
You can learn more about Reiki on our website - www.therapyintransition.org by clicking on the Reiki Presentation link on the right hand side of our website. Or you can always email and call us too!
It is important to remember the Reiki practitioner is only a facilitor and does not impose any 'healing' or changes on you and your body but only empowers the body to take advantage of the safe environment in which to heal itself. There of course are not guarantees with any type of treatment and practitioners are quick to recommend medical support when a client feels there is something greater or deeper happening within their bodies.
Thanks for reading and until next time ... embrace your inner wisdom.

Life Coaching - what makes Therapy in Transition different?
Embarking upon the profession of life coaching I realized there were a lot and I mean a lot of other individuals doing this. I had to question what was I going to be doing differently, what was my 'unique' approach going to be for individuals to choose to work with me over anyone else?
The answer was quite simple but it took me a while to come to the conclusion and with some help from my own Life Coach - Laura Rose.
Offering my clients a holistic approach to embracing change. I personally and truly believe for an individual to embrace change they need to embody it as well. I am able to support my clients by having them not just 'chat' through their challenges but to allow their bodies to 'chat' through the change with a combined Reiki and Craniosacral session. The Reiki allows for our 'spirit' bodies to come back into balance and the Craniosacral allows for our 'physical' bodies to come into balance. As well heal on all three levels - spirit, physical and emotional we as a whole being can embrace change much easier.
I found an article on CNN that I thought was really interesting on the rise of popularity of this profession. Even after reading the article and meeting many individuals in the 'coaching' industry I still am confident about my approach and what my unique elements offer.

A book of interest ...
For my the coaching certification I am being asked to read the book Falling Awake - creating the life of your dreams bu Dave Ellis. I have yet to begin and I need to have four of the chapters read and the questions answered by next Thursday afternoon. Nothing like leaving it to the last minute but oh well.
I have not cracked the book yet but I am definitely intrigued by the statement on the cover which reads: "Immediately after finishing Falling Awake, I ordered one copy for each of my staff so that they can readi it before our next retreat. I expect to make reading this book part of every new employee's orientation. Alex Counts, President, Grameen Foundation USA"
With a statement like that how could anyone not want to at least read the first chapter? I will keep you posted as I delve into the book this evening.
Thanks for reading. Until next time ... embrace your inner wisdom!

Serephim Sphere? When will I be ready to launch?
This is the question which keeps running through my head as I look at my long list of 'to dos'. I originally wanted to launch this women's group in June but with the arrival of my son in April I realized this was way too early and I was no where ready to begin even marketing it.
I pushed it out to September and here it is now just six weeks away and I am just beginning to work on the layout of the program and figuring out how best to market it.
Just a little bit of what I have put together for it is this ...
It will be a small group of women - max four women plus myself. Meeting once a week for 90 minutes (either morning, afternoon or an evening - not 100% sure yet) to discuss how our business decisions are impacting our ability to make decision at home and how our personal life decisions are impacting our ability to make sound business decisions. The program will run in four week increments.
The concept is each woman's specific situation will be the 'focus' for the others for 15 - 20 minutes. As a group of business women we will listen to the situations being presented and discuss options available or alternate reactions to situations which may have not turned out for the best.
I belong to a few different social networks and part of the pie which I keep missing is the individualized support. When a group gets too large, more than 15 people from my perspective that is, then the true support does not occur at the meetings as there is not enough time but it is then up to the individuals to seek out others for support. Through the Serephim Sphere I am proposing weekly individualized support and brainstorming opportunities for women business owners.
Before actually marketing this ... I still need to design a logo, layout the actual weekly action plans and figure out fees plus a few tiny other elements.
If you are in the Portland Oregon area and are interested in joining the Serephim Sphere then send me a note via email: info@therapyintransition.

Another Year Older ...
As we celebrate the birthday of the United States (July 4) as well as Canada (July 1) it gives me a moment to pause and realize what has transpired in the last year. The growth both for me personally and for my business.
Therapy in Transition began 20 months ago as an idea of my dog being a pet therapist on the go visiting those which are home bound due to medical challenges. It was a great focus for me as it gave me reason to come to terms with loosing my dog Tito to bone cancer. After his death I began to wonder what the real purpose was for Therapy in Transition. It flourished into what it is now and every week which goes by the larger picture keeps getting larger and more in focus - crisper. July 1, 2007 is the official 'birth' of Therapy in Transition and with this first year behind I am more in line with my life's journey and it's purpose than ever before.
I am excited about the Seraphim Sphere beginning in September, my first book being completed in 2009 and the partnerships which are being nurtured now.
I have become clearer with my non-profit Sponsor a Teacher Program than ever before and I am excited about how quickly it is already moving forward.
So with this next year of moving forward I send out birthday wishes to everyone; embrace the changes which are coming and rejoice for all we have experienced.
Thanks for reading, and until next time ... Embrace your inner wisdom.

Sponsor a Teacher Revived!!!
I cannot express how excited I am. As most of you know I had made the decision four or five months ago to let go of the non-profit I started in 1998 as I could not get enough 'umph' behind it to really make it successful and I was running out of steam myself.
Well .... inspiration hit me last night and I am totally rejuvenated and over the moon at the possibilities for it. The best part is I don't have to worry about the change of focus affecting my designation as the focus is still the same ... supporting public school classrooms to improve the educational experience of the students ... but now it is embracing a 'green' perspective.
Sponsor a Teacher will be working with those classrooms who want to embrace a 'green' approach to their educational experience thus ensuring their students embrace an environmentally friendly learning experience and lifestyle.
I am not 100% sure how this is going to happen or unfold over the next few months but stayed tuned also ...
We are reviving our board of directors and need to find six amazing individuals who are a variety of backgrounds that would like to spend 2 - 3 hours a month at a meeting lending their time, expertise and financial support.
Your time would be the 2 - 3 hours at monthly board meetings and other communication between these meetings.
Your expertise would be in either Marketing, Public Relations, Legal, Financial, Education - K-8 or 9 - 12 teaching or administrative, and IT.
Your financial support would be to bring with you potential donors and donations to help cover the costs of administrative services and overhead fees such as web hosting, website design, marketing, and public relations costs.
Please contact me if you are interested in becoming an active and participative member of the board or would like to volunteer your time/services to help get this amazing program off the ground.
Have a wonderful and abundant 4th of July!
