Concentration and Meditation

I am a firm believer that meditation can happen just about anywhere we find ourselves. The important element is being able to concentrate long enough to receive not only the inspirational benefits of meditation but also the overall health and wellness benefits. If you are like most people, concentrating is the piece that keeps you from feeling as if you are experiencing successful meditation. I would like to share with you a few useful tips I personally use to help me concentrate when meditating—no matter if I am sitting in a quiet, warm and familiar place such as my practicum room or on a noisy airplane.

Perfection!
One of most important things to remember when meditating: all is in perfection! If you are interrupted or lose focus after just a few minutes, take a breath! Do not let the “shortness” of the meditation get in the way of what even a few minutes can bring to you.

Emotional Cheating

When we hear the word “cheating” in reference to a relationship, we often don’t even consider anything outside of a physical interaction. But emotional cheating can be as damaging to a relationship as infidelity. The problem, however, is that unlike infidelity, emotional cheating isn’t easy to catch, prove or even admit! Very often most people are not even aware of the fact they are cheating on their partner emotionally.

Emotional cheating usually starts when one develops an emotional bond with a person of the opposite sex and starts sharing more with that person than with his or her partner. These relationships may or may not lead to physical intimacy, but in either of the two cases the existing relationship of the cheater suffers.

Self-Worth and the Law of Attraction

Have you been able to make the law of attraction work for you? Are you doing everything right but still not getting the results? If the answer is yes, then you need to ask yourself if you honestly believe you deserve to get what you want. One of the greatest inhibitors I’ve experienced with clients is they try hard to create and work toward the life they desire, but their self-worth and the value they hold of themselves stands in their way to achieving it.

From the perspective of life in general, we attract what we feel we are worth receiving. Therefore, self-worth is one of the most important elements of the law of attraction; that is, you need to have confidence in your own abilities—and most importantly, you need to believe you truly deserve all you desire.

Undercharging? Death of a Business

In the competitive world of business, selling your services cheap may seem tempting. After all, a lower price tag on your services may help you attract more clients than your competitors, right? But when you are in a field like consultancy or coaching, you need to ask yourself, “Is undercharging for my services worth it in the long run?”

What sets apart a consultant from the others is your intellect—or, more specifically your wisdom. Cheapening or devaluing your wisdom to a level that in line with or less than that of a competitor may not be a good idea. Also, it is simple business psychology that people expect providers to reduce their prices even more if they are already offering their services at a fee lower than the average market rate. By reducing your fees you are buying into this psychology. If that is the case, then you may want to ask yourself, “What is my true value, and how this is being reflected in the fees I charge?”

Pefect Moment Monday: Strawberry Smacks

Each week I hold the intention to participate in Perfect Moment Monday, sponsored by Weebles Wobblog. According to Weebles, “Perfect Moment Monday is about noticing a perfect moment rather than creating one.” Here is my Perfect Moment for this week.

Strawberries are my son’s favorite fruit. This past fall when I was planting veggies, I also decided to give strawberries a place to reside. I choose a broken planter that had sat empty all winter, as it had built-in drainage due to the cracks and was large enough to allow the plant to grow easily without being root bound.

With all the rain, this past spring I was concerned if we’d reap any vegetables and wondered if the strawberries could outlast the weather. I know they are hardy, but we really did have a lot of rain.

Difficult People at Work?

Whether we like it or not, all those working in an office setting have to deal with office politics and difficult people at work. After all, we can’t always choose with whom we work, so we just need to find a way to co-exist with people we don’t like or with whom we can’t get along. The vital question is, “How can one do that?” So, here are some tips that can help you find the right answer.

Introspect
I know it doesn’t sound like the best piece of advice. After all, we’re supposed to discuss how to handle people whom you have already acknowledged as difficult, right? But the fact is that often it is our own reaction to people who are different from us that makes us see them as “difficult.” It is therefore important we examine our own reactions and behavior objectively to figure out if at all we are the ones who are overeating.

Client Management: When to Fire Clients

As a consultant you want both money and work satisfaction, right? You’ll get these two vital things only if you have the right clients. So, what do I mean by the “right clients,” you may ask? The answer: your clients should respect you, value your services and pay you well. As a small business owner you do not go into business for yourself with the risk and investment to lose money or just break even. You go into business to make money. Part of the responsibility of working for yourself is about knowing your limits and your area of expertise. When you don’t honor these elements, you run the risk of losing more than you could be gaining.

Several consultants have a huge client base, but their earnings really come from 20-25% of them because a lot of people try to squeeze as much as they can out of consultants without paying them what they deserve. Then again, there are also clients who treat consultants like commodities or mere trainers. While such clients may pay you well, at the end of the day people who don’t value your services are not good for your overall brand image. This is one of the many reasons you need to be able to truly identify your key target demographic and/or perfect client type.

Perfect Moment Monday: Breaking Away—From Embarrassment!

Each week I hold the intention to participate in Perfect Moment Monday, sponsored by Weebles Wobblog. According to Weebles, “Perfect Moment Monday is about noticing a perfect moment rather than creating one. Perfect Moments can be momentous or ordinary or somewhere in between.” And so, here is my Perfect Moment for this week.

My perfect moment this week comes at my own expense: here’s the set up. We were camping with friends this past weekend. Their 11-year-old son said he’d go with me to get more ice for the cooler on our bikes. On our way to the store (which is literally three minutes away by bike), he said, “I’m gonna take you the long way.” My response was, “Great; maybe it will be a full five minutes instead of just three and I can see something new.” His long way was going around the building instead of straight to it. Little did I know we would be making an immediate—very immediate—right hand turn. He easily maneuvered up the ramp (Yes, ramp.) to the store door. I, who had no clue the store was right there, tried to follow suit.

Lunar Phases and Beauty

Images of beauty and seduction inundate us in all media outlets. In business we hear “sex sells”; that is, if you can bring a sense of sensuality to your marketing of products and services, you increase your chances of improving sales. We are learn the moon (or, more accurately, the phases through which it cycles) impacts gravitational pull and thus affects things such as ocean wave action and a woman’s menstrual cycle. So, my question of “Can moon phases have anything to do with one’s physical beauty?” begs to be answered.

This is what I’ve learned: according to certain pagan beliefs, the moon affects the functioning of our bodies, and therefore we can plan beauty treatments according to moon phases to improve the positive results.

Apparently, many consider the waxing moon the best period to apply skin care lotions and potions for maximum effect.

Mentoring Programs: Supportive of Success

When we set out to start our own business, we tend to look back at our previous experience and how the environment was either supportive or non-supportive of the employee’s success--to see what worked and what didn’t. One of the elements of a successful business is the openness to share our wisdom and passion of doing what we love with others. One of the easiest ways is to establish a mentoring program. Mentoring doesn’t always mean we are “grooming” new employees for their rise in the corporate environment; it can also mean mentoring high school students to gain much needed experience in the work place.

Today I would like to share with you a few advantages of how establishing a mentoring program can support your small business success while also touching on how setting up a mentoring program in a small to medium organization can help you develop your human resources and use those resources in the most efficient manner possible.

Perfect Moment Monday: Three Chats, Three Generations

My perfect moment this week wasn’t just an experience; it was also an emotional realization. As long as I can remember, I’ve always had a great relationship with my parents. Yes, we’ve had our ups and downs, but in the end we’ve spoken on average once a week with the longest stretch being just under a month between chats. Since my son was born, the telephone chats turned into web cam chats so they could see their grandson. I realized the enjoyment of the chats was declining as they began to take on a sense of obligation, and of course the stress of “are all grandparents being treated equally” set in about a year ago. The result was me pulling away and reprioritizing the importance of the web cam chats with my parents.

How to Use Your Intuition

It’s easy to say things such as “listen to your gut feeling,” “pay attention to your intuitive guidance,” “listen to your inner voice,” etc. But the perplexing questions are, “How do you know what your gut feeling is?” “How do you identify the voice of your intuition?” And most importantly, “how should you go about using it?” After my own 30-plus years of learning to listen, I thought I would share a few tips regarding what I know and what has worked with my clients as they are learning to “listen.” I always refer to this as “Embracing Your Inner Wisdom!”, and it is what I encourage everyone to be doing no matter where they may be on their self-discovery and empowering journey.”
