Perfect Moment Monday: A Bun in the Oven

My Perfect Moment for this week happened at 4:20 p.m. on Sat., March 5. There are really no words to describe this particular perfect moment, so I’ll let the video do the talking for me.

As some of you know, I am expecting our second child—a baby girl—and she is set to arrive on or around May 10. I am pleased to share with you our 3D/4D ultrasound that was done this past Saturday. It was the first time our son, who will be three in April, got to see and “meet” his new sister.

To see the video, please go here.

Until next time, embrace your inner wisdom.

Namaste,
Karen

Depression and Pregnancy

A lot of women experience symptoms of depression in varying degrees during their pregnancy. In fact, according to the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, around 10% of pregnant women tend to suffer from major depression and around 20% experience some symptoms of depression during their pregnancy. But to name just a few: 1) watching and hearing the heart beat steadily at 130 beats per minute; 2) watching the baby flip, roll, kick and wave; and 3) finding out we will be welcoming a sister for our 2 ½-year-old son in May 2011!

Pregnant? Upset Stomach?

An upset stomach is believed to be one of the first signs of pregnancy. The exact cause behind this side effect of pregnancy is not known; however, many researchers believe pregnant women experience an upset stomach because of the sudden hormonal changes. Another reason attributed to this is the acid levels in the stomach increase as digestion slows down during pregnancy.

Nausea (a side effect of pregnancy) is also believed to trigger of an upset stomach as well. Constipation is yet another side effect women experience. With that said, I personally did not enjoy these side effects when pregnant with my son, for which I am grateful. But I did receive quite a few recommendations and tips about how to offset these side effects that I think might be helpful for those who are pregnant, may become pregnant or know someone who is.

Yoga for Pregnancy

Keeping physically fit during your pregnancy is extremely important; after all, you are responsible for two lives: yours and the tiny fragile one growing inside you. Though physically strenuous exercises should normally be avoided during pregnancy, most doctors advise women to stay active or take up light exercises during this period. Yoga is one such exercise.

While pregnant women who are especially new to yoga need not attempt all Yoga asana, they can perform some of the following poses under expert supervision.
