Over the last few weeks I've been revisiting the purpose of why I began facilitating the educational seminars. To date they have been successful, although not exactly what I had envisioned – or so I thought. The reason for hosting the seminars was to get my name out there, provide a service to the community, and have a way in which I was also able to give back.

But was I really being successful? Did I really hold the limited vision of only one or two people for attendance? What is my true intention behind these seminars? What fears might be holding me back from receiving full attendance?

The Value of a Business Plan? Priceless!

Recently I was fortunate to receive a free copy of Palo Alto's Business Plan Pro software. When I picked up my free code on July 01, I knew having this software was going to be important. But it wasn't until this week I realized just how important!

I have worked on creating business plans for other organizations with the purpose of needing to raise financial capital and impress investors. My perspective regarding completing a business plan was definitely that it is a good exercise for companies of all sizes at no matter what stage they happen to be. It was from this premise I began "officially" working on my own.

It's All a Matter of Perspective

Today is a day the world has decided to pay respects to a man who on more than one occasion changed the course of direction in the music industry. Michael Jackson (or MJ, as some refer to him) is also considered the “King of Pop.”

In death we begin to view an individual from the eyes of goodness and greatness, but why is it during life we view these same individuals from a completely different perspective? I am generalizing here, but in more cases than not Michael Jackson was definitely put through the ringer when it came to judgments made against him. Did he deserve some of these? Possibly, but it's not my place to judge his actions of the past, nor is it my place to judge another in the present or the future – especially when the actions did not directly relate to me personally or my family.

Let Your Light Shine

This week we’ve had a number of untimely celebrity passings: Tonight Show sidekick Ed McMahon, Charlie’s Angels star Farrah Fawcett, music icon Michael Jackson, and most recently the man known as the King of Infomercials, Billy Mays. Though all of these individuals left their own mark on the world with their unique talent, style and personalities, they share one thing in common: they all loved what they did and let their light shine through in their work and everyday lives."

Restrictions

Restrictions may be held deeper than you might realize…

Working with my clients over the last few years, I 've come to realize that most individuals say what they think they believe and know but ultimately don't embody the belief. Here’s an example:

John hurt himself while doing yard work this week. He has had past issues with neck pain and a lower back ache for a long time. While he was working with me for coaching and receiving both the energy and body work during his sessions, he continued to approach his professional work with the same determination.

Last weekend my husband and I took our daughter to see the Hannah Montana movie. We’re all huge fans of the show and knew the movie would be great, but we had no idea the effect it would have on us.

With our four year old sitting happily between us we watched anxiously, wondering whether Miley would continue to live her double life or give it up for something else. But something happened about midway through the movie. It stopped being about Miley/Hannah and became about us.

Some people hunt animals, some people hunt ghosts. Me? I hunt typos. Picking typos out of a published book, newsletter or sales page is something I’ve always loved doing. It’s a twisted little habit I just can’t seem to shake. This of course, is a good occupational hazard to have in my line of work, and I’m sure it comes as a relief to some of my clients. I do feel bad, however, for those people who are consistently putting out work that has not been properly proofread for these types of errors.

"Hurry Up and Eat!"

“Sit down!” “Sit up!” “Don’t play with your food!” “Three more…” Ah, the mantras of a parent at mealtimes. “I don’t like that” or “I don’t want that!” combined with gestural communication such as turning away, spitting out, mouth tightly closed: these are the mantras of children at mealtimes.

Does it have to be this way? Can kids learn good table manners and to eat a wide variety of foods? The answer is a resounding YES!

The problem is, when I tell people that their first response is usually, “That’s great! How can I promote MY business on Twitter?” Ah, see? That’s where they are misunderstanding. I never said I was promoting my business, I said I was growing it. Big difference!
