Measuring Motivation

When it comes to finding motivation to achieve our goals, there are some of us who just naturally have it—and then there are others who struggle to locate and embrace it. As a person who is always highly motivated, I do find there are certain days when I wonder to where my motivation has disappeared. It's on these days I question if there is a way to actually measure my motivation levels in comparison to others days, outside of knowing I feel more or less motivated.

We know that motivation is the fuel that supports people to take actions necessary for them to achieve their goals. When people have a strong desire to take action or are willing to take chances, think outside the box or blaze their own path, we recognize they have a strong sense of being motivated. Yet when an individual has a less-than-strong inner desire to take action and makes little or no progress in his life, we know these people as slackers or lacking motivation.

Outside of these two perspectives, is there another way to learn how to measure motivation? Simply put: yes. This is done by actually looking at and recognizing the type or quality of action steps highly motivated individuals take versus those who lack motivation to reach their goals.

The Whys and Hows of Corporate Coaching

As a small business coach I work with different types of clients. There are those who are working for someone else but hold the desire to start their own business, as well as those who have been in business for a few years but are seeking to move their business to the next level. An increasing trend in both small and large businesses is the human resources department acknowledging the value of coaching for employees, which then in turn supports a stronger bottom line for the business.

Before hiring a corporate coach for your employees, it would be a good idea to gain a basic understanding of corporate coaching concepts and techniques. The knowledge of how coaching works and what it can help you achieve will make it easier for you to:

Energy Zappers and Suckers

Do you ever feel depressed, low on energy or lethargic after spending time with someone? If yes, then that someone can be categorized as an “Energy Zapper” or toxic person! Toxic people have a habit of passing on their negativity to others; they thrive on others’ empathy and prefer to spread their misery instead of seeking ways to get out of it. The following is a list of the most common types of toxic people and suggestions about how to protect yourself and preserve your energy levels.

The Skinny on the Dip

...the Dip, which focuses primarily on motivation, aims to instill in readers the constant reminder to remember you’re in “the Dip” when you find yourself struggling through the proverbial darkness before the dawn that we all face when we are striving to master something or achieve a particular goal. You know the wisdom tidbit that says, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step”? The Dip falls somewhere between your second and 999th step, but you’ll likely feel it most when you encounter difficult obstacles or unpredictable situations that seem designed to hamper or even kill your goal.

Using the 10-10-10 Strategy for Effective Decision Making

From the first moment a friend told me about Suzy Welch’s 10-10-10 strategy for decision making, it struck home and had an immediate impact on me because at that point I was revisiting and evaluating the aftermath of a choice I had made a decade ago. Using Welch’s strategy would have been incredibly supportive of helping me make a more informed and appropriate decision ten years ago, so I immediately added the 10-10-10 approach to my toolbox of decision-making skills.

Granted, it can often be difficult to make informed, thoughtful, beneficial decisions. Everyone has found herself in a position at one time or another where she made decisions based on gut, guilt, or instant gratification; that is, we sometimes find ourselves making choices reactively rather than proactively.

CranioSacral Therapy and Its Benefits For Your Business

I often have clients ask me how having regular CranioSacral sessions can help them make better decisions relating to their business. I can understand why people who aren’t familiar with the process might wonder how five grams can affect their ability to stay focused and on task or otherwise impact their decision-making processes.

But as a CranioSacral practitioner, I know that the therapy sessions certainly can impact your professional life because I’ve received so much positive feedback from countless clients over the years. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m always happy to address questions about CranioSacral therapy because I understand that it almost always means the people asking those questions have reached a place in their lives in which they’re prepared to embrace changes that will allow them to move forward in their personal and professional lives.

Understanding the Energy of Your Aura

When you hear the word “energy,” the first thing you probably think of is gas, electricity, or something similar that produces change or movement. In truth, this definition is very similar to how practitioners like myself would describe energy from the perspective of our work with auras. “Aura” refers to the space surrounding your physical being that extends upward and outward in the basic reach of your arm span. People often think of their aura as being their “personal space” in which they determine what gets in and what’s excluded.

Human beings are living, breathing sources of energy. Think, for example, of the heat our bodies produce when we’re cold or the perspiration we produce when we’re hot. Similarly, our metabolism is another form of energy that converts our food from simple nourishment to fuel.

Mentoring Effectively

The Art of Mentoring

Being a mentor is a role that comes with a lot of pride and responsibility. The pride lies in achieving a position from where you can help others with the hindsight of your experience, and the responsibility lies in the fact that you will be playing a vital role in the careers and lives of those you decide to help.

When you take on the role of a mentor, you may make the mistake of getting emotionally involved in the success of your protégés. That, however, is the biggest mistake a mentor can make! It may sound like an oxymoron, but mentorship is actually the art of detached involvement.

When the Love Is Gone

Here is guest blogger Jackie Nees' from Integrity Office Solutions newest posting. Enjoy!

I was flipping through a magazine recently when the title of an article caught my eye. It said, “Do You Love Your Business?” My initial thought was, what a silly question, who doesn’t love their business? Then I realized that number is probably much higher than I think!

Surviving the Facts of Life

Enjoy reading today's most recent submission from guest blogger Krista Kleinwort, Parent and Behavioral Consultant:

Talking to our kids about the facts of life is both a fact of life and life of facts! As the child gets older the job becomes more daunting to the majority of mothers and outright anxiety-provoking for most fathers. It doesn’t have to be that way, though, and the earlier you start, the better.

Learning about the birds and the bees (As if these two species mate any how!) begins in the cradle. Your children learn from you...

The Passage Of Time And Its Effect On Life

It's hard to believe it is Friday already. These last few months I cannot tell you where the time is going, but it certainly is not on my side. Just when I think I have gotten caught up I look at my to-do list and realize that it actually wasn’t complete, so I add another few items to it along with any new tasks which have been passed onto me.

We have scheduled our first event of the year – Introduction to CranioSacral on March 4 at 7 p.m. It will be fun, but I realize by scheduling it I also have given myself a cart load of new to-dos. The balancing act continues to get refined between self, work and my family. I am fortunate that I have a very supportive husband and a nine month old who thinks it is just great I work from home.

Things to ponder ...

Good Evening Everyone,

Getting a late start to posting on the blog today, but it has been a great day. Met with our PR gal, Diane Dennis of Inspired Media, for an awesome meeting. We focused on the goals we would like to achieve for 2009, and to say the least it is very exciting.

The meeting reinforced my intentions behind why I started Therapy in Transition and the goals which I originally set out to achieve. After our meeting, I have to admit there are many more doors opening for the possibility of working with a broader clientele than I originally thought.

This can be good and bad, because if I begin to embrace too many demographics then my original target of individuals I was hoping to support during their transition just might get lost in the mix. I want to be sure this doesn't happen, so I will be diligently working on keeping these individuals within my camera lens as I begin to sharpen my vision.

Diane gave me a list of action items to work on over the next few weeks until we meet again. Daunting, but great!

Thanks for stopping by, and until next time ... embrace your inner wisdom!

Namaste,
Karen

Today is Launch Day!

We have a new website design and with it our own blog space, but we will be updating this site as well and technically will have two blogs. Here is today's blog from the site. Make sure you join us at http://www.therapyintransition.org today!

Welcome to our newly redesigned site!

Thank you for taking time today to visit us. Did you enroll as a Free Online Member? If not, you are missing out on the chance to win one of our prizes. Additionally, if you enroll you also get advance notice of any new site elements being released and early bird discount notices.

The website relaunch has been approximately five months in the making, and there are a few elements we are still working on. We choose not to include them in the initial launch as the modules were not stable enough to our liking – stability, to us, equals security. Our goal is to keep our members' and clients' information secure, so an element which we are not confident is stable just has to wait.

Here are a few things we are still working on:

~ Seamless payment and enrollment process for all our services. Currently you are sent to our online store, which is a different site. This will change, but for now your information is gathered and processed securely with a minimum 255 encryption.

~ Enrolling Virtual Coaching Clients. This means that at a fraction of the cost and your time, commitment to communicate is done when you have the time not set to a schedule and calendar clock you interact with your coach via a secure private forum on our site.

~ Enabling the private forum chat for our Ongoing Coaching Clients to have an additional means of communicating with us through our website in between their sessions.

~ Enabling group forums so our Seraphim Sphere workshop enrollees can have an additional form of support during the four-week workshop series plus for an additional three months following the last workshop in the series.

And a whole lot more!

Thank you again, and welcome to the Therapy in Transition team!

Until next time ... Embrace Your Inner Wisdom.

Namaste,
Karen

Christmas is approaching ... a little to quickly I think

I can hardly believe it is the 15th of December already and Christmas is just 10 days away. I think I am done Christmas shopping; I say I think because until the morning I am never really sure if I am complete or not.

Today was a snow day here in Wilsonville. We got dumped with a whopping 2 inches of snow last night but the roads are covered in ice and the ODOT required chains on the major roadways on all vehicles. I thought about heading to Target to purchase a few last minutes items like lights for our tree and an anniversary card for my husband tomorrow but thought better about it and decided I'll wait until he comes home from work and we will all go together.

I have been thinking of a 'theme' for this week's focus of blog postings and I believe a little energy work would be perfect. For the next four days I will post information regarding Reiki. What it is, how it works, the benefits and a little bit of history. I had posted information regarding Reiki on July 22 but feel with the winter solstice fast approaching it would be great timing.

Until tomorrow ... have an amazing day, enjoy the snow and embrace your inner wisdom!

Namaste,
Karen

Life Coaching - what makes Therapy in Transition different?

Embarking upon the profession of life coaching I realized there were a lot and I mean a lot of other individuals doing this. I had to question what was I going to be doing differently, what was my 'unique' approach going to be for individuals to choose to work with me over anyone else?

The answer was quite simple but it took me a while to come to the conclusion and with some help from my own Life Coach - Laura Rose.

Offering my clients a holistic approach to embracing change. I personally and truly believe for an individual to embrace change they need to embody it as well. I am able to support my clients by having them not just 'chat' through their challenges but to allow their bodies to 'chat' through the change with a combined Reiki and Craniosacral session. The Reiki allows for our 'spirit' bodies to come back into balance and the Craniosacral allows for our 'physical' bodies to come into balance. As well heal on all three levels - spirit, physical and emotional we as a whole being can embrace change much easier.

I found an article on CNN that I thought was really interesting on the rise of popularity of this profession. Even after reading the article and meeting many individuals in the 'coaching' industry I still am confident about my approach and what my unique elements offer.

Thanks for reading ... until next time embrace your inner wisdom.

Namaste,
Karen
